A.     ENTRIES - Gabhail anns na co-fharpaisean

         Enquiries regarding information and entry forms are to be directed to the Competition Secretary.
         Only the Competition Secretary can accept and approve your entry in a competition.

         The DEADLINE for the Competition Secretary to receive your Entry Form for competition(s) is:

 
APRIL 1, 2007

         No late entries will be accepted.

         All Entry Forms must be received by the Competition Secretary (deadline April 1,2007) accompanied by the
         appropriate fees in Canadian funds ONLY.  (Cheque or money order made payable to Mòd Vancouver.
         We DO NOT ACCEPT credit card or foreign funds/cheques).

B.      MUSIC

1.      For own choice selections competitors must present the following number of copies to the adjudicators immediately
         before competing:

         a)  Solos and Duets - two copies of:

              Music in staff notation;
              Gaelic words;
              English translation of the words;

         b)  Recitation - two copies of selection in Gaelic only

         c)  Storytelling: no copies necessary

         d) Group Voice & Instrumental and Choirs and Quartets - four copies of:

             Music in staff notation;
             Gaelic words;
             English translation of words;

         e)  For Competitions #42 and #43; two copies of Gaelic words only are required.

2.      Please write name and competition number on each copy submitted to the adjudicators.

3.      You are required to submit the English translation of the Gaelic words to accommodate local music adjudicators who
         are not Gaelic speakers.

4.      Any questions regarding the songs (e.g. music, number of verses to be sung, key, etc.) are to be directed to

5.      Sheet Music, Gaelic words and English translation for Prescribed Songs will be forwarded to competitors on receipt of 
         entrance fee. Please note that while a prescribed song may be the same as is prescribed for the National Mòd, the Mòd
         Vancouver version must be sung; it may differ.

6.      Competitors may enter more than one competition.

7.      No competitor may be awarded the same trophy for three consecutive years.

8.      Songs which are used as prescribed pieces in this syllabus must not be used "Own Choice" selections.

9.      The same song may not be used by the same competitor in two or more competitions.

10.    The Music Committee of Mòd Vancouver will be pleased to help competitors make an "Own Choice" selection.

11.    Competitors should sing in a key which suits their voice.

12.    Prescribed songs for choirs may be sung a semi-tone higher or lower than the set key.

13.    Conductors may not sing with their choir.

14.    All choirs and other participants should learn the following songs for the Final Concert:

         0 Canada (Gaelic version);
         Suas Leis a' Ghàidhlig (Up with the Gaelic);
         Athchuinge
         Psalm 65 (Tune: French)
         Gleann Bhaile Chaoil (arr, Stephen Smith);
         Oidhche Mhath Leibh (Good-night to you);

These are not competition pieces and choirs may read words;

C.     FEES

1.      Juniors (7 -17 years) per competition entered:

         Solos:        $3.00
         Harp:         $3.00
         Duets:        $6.00
         Choir:        $20.00

2.      Adults (18 years and older) per competition entered:

         Solos:                         $ 5.00
         Harp:                          $ 5.00
         Duets:                         $10.00
         Quartets and Groups   $16.00
         Choir                          $40.00

D.     AGE LIMITS - Aoisean

1.      Competitions in the Junior Section must be within the prescribed age group on March 1, 2007.

2.      Competitors 18 years and over on March 1, 2007, are eligible for senior competitions.

E.      COMPETITIONS - Co-fharpaisean

1.      The order in which competitors perform will be decided by ballot before the printing of the Mòd Programme.

2.      A competition is closed when the chairperson considers that all competitors have had a fair opportunity to compete.
         This decision is final.

3.      All singing is unaccompanied except where indicated.

4.      All words must be memorized. Reference to script is not permissible.

5.      No refunds of entry fees will be given unless the competition is cancelled by Mòd Vancouver.

F.      RECITATION AND STORYTELLING - Co-fharpaisean Beul Aithris

1.      Recitation shall not exceed five minutes.

2.      Stories shall not exceed five minutes.

G.     SOLOS - Co-fharpaisean Aon-neach

1.      Junior solos are limited to 20 lines;

2.      Senior solos are limited to 28 lines; (except Puirt a Beul. See competition list)

3.      If a song has a chorus, the chorus shall be sung first, then two or three verses, and the song will end with the chorus
         except where indicated.

H.     DUETS - Seinn Càraid

1.      Each competitor in a duet may sing in one duet only.

2.      Chorus as in G 3.

I.      QUARTETS - Seinn Oran Ceathrar

         Each competitor in a quartet may sing in one quartet only,

J.      HARP

         Competitions 46 - 49 will proceed only if a minimum of 3 competitors enter each competition, by the deadline.

K.     JUNIOR CHOIRS - Coisirean Oigridh

1.      Junior Choirs (age 7-13 years) must sing two prescribed songs as below:

         a. In Unison;
         b. In two part harmony;
         c. Should have a minimum of eight voices;
         d. No competitor may sing in two choirs in the same competition;

2.      Junior Choirs (age 14 - 17 years):

         a. Must sing two prescribed songs in two-part harmony;
         b. Should have a minimum of eight voices;
         c. No competitor may sing in two choirs in the same competition;

3.      Members of a Junior Choir may not sing in a Senior Choir.

L.      ADULT CHOIRS - Coisirean Inbheach

1.      Mixed Choirs should have a minimum of 10 voices;

2.      Ladies or Men's Choirs should have a minimum of 9 voices;

M.    EXCLUSION FROM A COMPETITION - Bacadh bho Cho-fharpaisean

1.      Any Competitor who fails to submit the appropriate copies of an Own Choice song will not be permitted to compete in 
         that competition.

2.      Any person whose vocation is directly concerned with the subject matter of a competitions should not enter that
         competition, e.g. a professional singer or musician, etc. However, professional conductors may conduct choirs.

3.      Persons fluent in Gaelic and/or holding a gold card from the National Mòd in Scotland may not enter any Learners'
         competitions.

4.      Learners of Scottish Gaelic may enter Learners or Fluent competitions, but not both; they will be adjudicated on the 
         same basis as fluent speakers in the fluent categories.

5.      Ladies participating in Competitions 21, 22 and 23 may not enter Competitions 27 and 28 and vice versa; men
         participating in Competitions 24, 25 and 26 may not enter Competitions 29 and 30 and vice versa.
    
6.      Winners of the Gold Medal Competitions at the National Mòd in Scotland are excluded from competing for the 
         Aggregate Competitions 21 to 26.

7.      Winners of the Traditional Gold Medal (Scotland) are excluded from Competitions 42 and 43. Winners of the Learners'
         Silver Medal (Scotland) are excluded from Competitions 27 to 30.

N.     ADJUDICATORS - Britheamhan

1.      An adjudicator may call on a competitor to cease singing, reciting or storytelling.

2.      The decisions of adjudicators will be recorded on separate sheets for music and language.

3.      Results for music and language will be expressed numerically.

4.      Adjudicators' decisions on marks are final.

0.      CONCERTS - Cuirm Chiùil

1.      Winners in all Competitions must be prepared to perform at an evening concert; however they may not be required to
         sing at the Final Concert.

2.      Winners of certain categories will be expected to perform at the final concert. This list will be printed in the Mòd
         Programme.

P.      TROPHIES - Duaisean

1.      A trophy or book prize will be awarded for every competition.

2.      Main trophies may be retained for a year; small keeper trophies are also awarded.

3.      Main trophies may not leave Canada or the Western USA.
